Introducing: RFK
Got a sick new artist for you today who goes by the name RFK. I found him on soundcloud, and although he ain’t got many tunes on there; what he has got is some serious business that really showcases his versatility. Straight up no nonsense bass music. Listen…
I had a little chat with RFK, aka Ryan Freeman-Kennedy, to find out a bit more about him. This 20 year old, based in Kingston, who’s been producing now for about 3 years, got into production through a friend, who introduced him to Fruity Loops (FL Studio). Interestingly though, he’s been playing bass since he was 14. He makes a good point about producing; “It was good to have an outlet where you didn’t have to rely on other people to create something so I’ve stuck with it ever since.” He’s right, being in a band can be frustrating, and when you’re not in a band, just playing a bassline by yourself isn’t really all that fun.

As you can see Ryan likes to vary his style, he’s not keen on putting his music in any categories besides ‘Bass Music’. “I make a bit of everything really, It just depends what mood I’m in when I’m at the computer.” Ryan produces on Logic, records various instruments and uses weird and percussive sounds he collects using his portable recorder. He draws influences from a lot of soul music, 80s jams, bass music and jazz.
